PETA Urges Ben & Jerry's To Use Human Milk

Animals are SENTIENT also.
I don't SEE anything wrong WITH this. They're not GOING to chain up the women IN stalls and kick THEM UNTIL milk comes out, NG.
RANDOM caplocked WORDS.
Many pregnant women use baby formula anyway, and so they just spend their time lactating for no reason. They might as well be able to ship it off somewhere and receive a check for it, instead of not getting paid to have it seep out embarrassingly onto their shirts in public like they currently do.
I mean, it's quite bizarre, and I wouldn't exactly be the first in line to try their new recipes. But there's nothing (or at least, very little) inherently wrong with the idea. It's just weird. :|

Internet Explorer 8 to Include So-Called 'Porn Mode' Privacy Feature
Posted by Bangledesh on 07:00 PM 08/31/2008
I'm not saying that I disagree with you evo, but does M$ give credit to the creators?
Every time M$ adds a new feature they say "Oh hey, look at what we did!!!!!!! We're awesome!!!" when FF and Safari and Maxathon and Opera had tabbed browsing for years before M$ decided to add it and champion it as the next greatest thing from the line of M$ (as an example.)
In your examples, no one claims to be the inventor of the car or the t-shirt. What they do do, however, is add onto the car or the t-shirt and market those original aspects. And then the other manufactures add the successful features onto their cars or shirts. They don't claim that they invented the product, nor do they claim to have invented what they didn't create.
Henry Ford didn't add seat heaters, intermittent windshield wipers, panning headlights, reclining seats, rear-view cameras, air bags, or an automatic transmission. And the t-shirt inventor didn't add screening or print, lycra, or spandex. M$ takes other's ideas and markets it as their own.
M$ has done a lot. But they also take credit for a lot that they haven't created.

But since you're a man of faith... umm... God's letting the home team down on this one then? That's terrible. It's two, maybe three times as bad now. You know, since a certified, bona fide, Baptist Minister was at a loss for words."

I'm embarrassed to think that you actually believe that sexual acts are appropriate to display to children young enough to be at a playground.
I wouldn't want my daughter or son to see a woman or man masturbating in public. Nor would I want to have them see intercourse between two partners.
There is a big difference between nudity and pornography. The US is a bit strict regarding nudity. But sexual acts are just not appropriate to display to children.

Okay, so if we're all going to hell within 2 years, then it doesn't matter who gets elected because the delay for economic policies to display a reliable result on a national scale is 4-8 years. Which helps explain why the system sucks, generally each president more or less undoes what the previous one or two presidents started. So aside from small fluctuations and bumps the economy pretty much relies on itself. LOL

Nudity has long been accepted of minors for "artistic" portrayals when "tastefully" depicted. It's not a revision that's happened "all of a sudden". I could easily go to Blackbuster and rent several videos that have bare breasts of minors.
And aso, medical shows and diaper commercials depict chilren (and babies) nude all the time. What makes it alright for a baby/toddler to be nude? And not an older child? Is it that babies are too young? How can they be too young? Or is there anything?
I remember a particularly surprising example of TV nudity from TLC, where they repeatedly showed a girl who was around eight years old topless in a doctor's office (they were doing a special on a skin disease I believe). Neighborhoods also often have half naked children running around in yards darting from inflatable pools during summer.
Will some people pervert the images to their own desires? Yes, but they already do that.
Does that mean that it should no longer acceptable for pictures to be taken of clothed minors since people also use those images? If it does, then television shows and movies are going to have to do some major cast modifications.
Do I agree that the artistic/scientific nudity is acceptable? Or do I condemn the artists, producers, directors, and editors who include it in their works?
I don't see it as something for me to decide based on my experience and current underdtanding of the situation.
It could be wrong, most certainly. But it could just as certainly be an expression of inspiration, or scientific discovery. And I certainly don't think its within anyone's power to decide on a subject with such a limited introduction to the picture in discussion.

Wow, none of you (save for Kanzen) can articulate anything with any degree of rationality or efficiency.
Undersiege, Kanzen and you stopped the debate about communism at the exact same time, except for you referencing it afterwards in attacks towards Kanzen.
And Rose, what are you prattling on about? It seems to me that all of your comments in this have done nothing constructive and only attempted to further bolster an argument between undersiege and Kanzen. An argument which should have subsided almost instantly after Kanzen identified "Communism" as being incorrect through definition.
Basically, you all need to learn how to read the article and how to properly and accurately debate an issue and refute or support relevant points.

Time is relative to where you are in space, and how fast you are traveling through that space. oh christ that made my head hurt.
I don't want to think about it anymore but the article is fascinating.
And the dude who posted that rythms are based in time is completely missing the point of the article.
Time as measured by humans has evolved to have those artificial rhythms. It is based upon the Earth's cycle only.
This was a F2cking cool article. Tho.
First of all, if your little ditty made your head hurt, don't try to read Heisenberg anytime soon. His Uncertainty Principle will rip your ass up.
There's also applications of Born's Law and the Relative State Formulation that suggest that a new universe is created with the intention of every action: one in which the action took place and one in which the action did not [such as shooting a proton at a bell in a vacuum and observing whether or not that bell rang (it would only happen something like 70-80% of the time from what I remember, by the way.)]
Follow that through a few derivations just thinking about all the actions that occur or don't occur with people and how many universes are created at any point in time because of that. That one gets trippy.
Second, I never said that my response was in relation to the article, it was directed towards the comment of another poster who also did not address the article. Specifically, it was a response to her proposition that everything is essentially just a series of coincidental coincidences, which I disagree with but understand.
And third, I used the Earth day as an example of the necessary human interpretation of the rhythms found in the universe. Also used the circadian rhythm, which isn't a construction of man (and removing the possibility of perpetual coincidence addressed earlier, is another demonstration of rhythm in the universe) but whatever. I never said that time was constant, or anchored to earth or humans. I specifically stated that the rhythms are altered around considerably large or small objects or influences. Time exists in that nearly everything in the universe follows some repetitious pattern, and thus a rhythm.
It's the system of measurement created by humans that is inconsistent, and shouldn't be given the diverse and unknown nature of everything.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that rhythms are how the Universe conducts itself. Its entirely possible that everything does happen as NG suggested, that everything is just a string of coincidences. However, its also possible that the Universe uses rhythm. Other options are also possible, just because no one here has suggested or devised them.
Time may not exist.

Yeah, that's quite the paradox there.
Time may not exist.
Posted by Bangledesh on 02:24 AM 08/08/2007
@ NG- It would seem to me that time is an interpretation of observed rhythms throughout the definable universe. Not an arbitrary creation by man because they woke up one morning and decided that it should be morning.
"Time" existed before man, it just didn't have a name. Circadian rhythms are inherent in every living entity, and are roughly ~24 hours (24-25) in duration. Earth days are just under 24 hours (something like 23 hours and 56 minutes.) The majority of the universe, save for the tiniest and largest bits, follows set patterns.
Don't get me wrong, I think that I understand your position in that you may be saying that everything is just a continuous occurrence, with no repetition just coincidence. However, it seems to me that the universe is inherently too orderly (save for that whole tiniest and largest bits thing) to just be randomly conducting itself in such a fashion, and thus requires the acknowledgment and acceptance of repetition.
(That sounds a bit like I'm arguing for a Creationist stance in some awkward roundabout way... which I'm not.)
@ Ascaris- A light year is a measurement of distance, not time. 10 light years for us will be 10 light years for them, its just the speed of travel that will distinguish us from them.

This article is about the simplified and elongated pronunciation used by individuals when speaking to infants, not the gibberish that babies mumble while deciding just how much to soil themselves at that given moment. The robot "learns" what is said, in a similar fashion as the babies when they learn how to say "Ma-ma" or "Da-da" by listening and watching to the overly expressed syllables.

First of all, you all are dicks for debating and arguing in this. And this will most probably be cleaned out shortly. Asses.
Second of all, I was observing a pro- and anti-abortion demonstration and they held a moment of silence for this, which I thought was really quite neat.
And finally, its a damn shame that this happened, and for whatever reason that it did happen our thoughts and prayers need to be with the victims and families effected. If you disagree, then do not post in this, and sure as hell do not try to start something.

So scientists are trying to understand how the world, and universe work.
Why is that so amusing to you? People don't want to sit around being ignorant, creating deities to explain rain, earthquakes, the stars movements, and everything else. Whoopity do. Good for scientists for trying to learn why things happen.
And besides, its not '"man's" thinking' that governs how everything works. Scientists observe phenomenon and try to construct possible explanations based upon the observed criteria. That's why they create hypotheses and eventually develop theories. And those need to be altered or reconstructed as new information is discovered. So good for them for trying to find out what caused that, so that new models can be created, or old ones adapted.

Ask my doctor about what? That there are people who are overweight? That's obvious. That being fat means that you're lazy? That's not scientifically or medically sound. That's superstition and ignorance. A doctor would laugh at my ignorance for postulating such an idiotic thing. How does eating excessive calories, or possibly having a hormonal imbalance mean that you are lazy? It simply means that you eat more than is required, or have a medical condition. Are people who consume too few calories, or have physical and mental differences lazy? Because apparently if someone isn't the perfect human image according to Psychism then they're lazy.
And then, if 74% of the people make being overweight the rule, then doesn't that mean that 26% of the American population are malnourished and underweight? Sounds like that 26% needs to stop slacking so much and step up their caloric intake to stop being weird and lazy. I mean, if they can't even spend enough time eating, then what can they do? Those lazy fools.
And flashcash stated that this had evolved beyond the original context of the news post. Which isn't off topic nor is it a complaint. It is a statement regarding the development of the topic. Development that you instigated by claiming that James Pacenza is why jobs are outsourced.
And its not a discussion any more, you stopped responding to the economic context of this news post, and our debate, after my last dose of economic analysis and refutation of your mindless and ultimately uninformed opinions.
After that you went off topic stating that all obese people, except for a few "exceptions to the rule" are lazy.
But thats fine, if you don't wish to get back on topic we can end this debate.

The first paragraph was a direct response to yours, illustrating the ignorance found in accepting such fallacious statements and arguments.
So all fat people are lazy? Thats just idiotic. What about Buddha? Theodore Roosevelt? Cornelius Vanderbilt? George Patton? They sure seemed to get things done. Or even Dick Cheney, and Ted Kennedy? They sure seem to spend a lot of time being busy. Guess they must have been wearing a fat suit, because real fat people can't do anything except sit on a couch eating food, is that correct? Because apparently I was wrong or confused, about that.
And you obviously didn't care about the topic before my previous comment, since you digressed immediately to outsourcing. But that doesn't matter anymore, correct?

How does being overweight make you lazy? That's a fallacy. 'Lazy' is a disinclination to work. No where does it say anything about being overweight. Hell, I'm considered overweight (5'10" 180lbs) but I leg press 800 pounds, run for 45 minutes, and can swim competitively for 7 hours a day. Using your logic it could easily be said that the American workers are too busy working at their jobs to go workout. Which also isn't true, but could be supported by "real life" facts and statistics, such as the fact that the US workers maintain an average work week of 46 hours, 4 hours higher than the European work week of 42 hours, unlike most of your arguments.

as for "want to be paid vast sums of money for slacking at work." there is federal laws going into place right now because managers, ceo's, et cetera have been paying themselves vast sums of money
So the government is taking steps to minimize corporate excess. Shame on them?

How so? Corruption exists because of an independence from authority. CEO's get paid so much because there is no currently effective regulatory committee to oversee their actions. Since those committees are operated and staffed by corporate leaders. That system exists because "only CEOs are trained to understand what CEOs need to do". Everyone scrutinizes the lower levels, because there are so many levels above it from which to look down from. Capitalism and corruption are not the same and you need to be slapped for thinking so.

...Because it is so steady? That one should have been obvious. Some other countries are having periods of higher economic growth, good for them. I hope it persists. It'd be better for the world if it does, that doesn't alter the fact that the US economy has been consistent. Exchange rates (and thus the "strength" and "worth") are determined by how large of a supply of a certain currency there is in the global supply. For example; the Euro is "strong" to the dollar because the supply of dollars in the global market (66% of the Foreign Reserve is the USD) is greater than the supply of Euros (25% of the Foreign Reserve). A greater supply, means a lesser price, and thus a "weaker" currency. And a "weak" currency is beneficial to the economy because it makes it cheaper for other countries to invest in that country (the US) and purchase the goods exported from that country (the US). So its good for the US to have a weaker currency because the world will trade in it.

Because its easier for us to develop our other resources. Its called comparative and absolute advantage. Over all its cheaper for us to sell those countries the resources and buy back a finished product because we are busy making other things. Countries and industries produce what they do because it is most efficient for them to do so.(Just like how we buy resources from foreign countries and export finished goods to them.)

First of all trade deficits are not a bad thing. It means that the consumers are able to purchase more than they would have available without international trade. It also means that more people are using our currency (which was discussed earlier) which supports our economy and global competitivity.
And secondly, that's good to know. It doesn't, however, make sense on the most basic economic level. The events make sense (mostly, resolutions obtained from the discussions in the MOSS talks, GATT, and OECD could cause such events), your reasoning doesn't. Tariffs and taxes are placed to discourage trade and encourage self-reliance (which is generally bad for everyone involved and not involved). Japan wouldn't have to pay tariffs (although I'm fairly certain that there are small tariffs on most industries) if we wanted to encourage them to trade with us. As for the US paying tariffs to Japan, we'll thats fine and dandy. Not related to how much we buy from them though by any stretch of the imagination.

That's not what I'm saying. But to answer your question: No, there wouldn't. Unless the jobs required could not be supplied in our labor market (which most probably wouldn't happen.)
What I am saying is that "American's in general are lazy and want to be paid vast sums of money for slacking at work" is not the reason, and that your statement is generally incorrect and ignorant.
People in the US get paid so much because of the high standard of living (and thus the assorted COLAs) and productivity found in the United States. It costs more to live here, so we get paid more at the most basic level. However, if people don't perform their job to an adequate degree related to their salary or wage, then they don't have their job for long.
The US has the most stable economic growth found in any nation over the past 70 years (and more or less since our inception), we get paid so much because we produce. We produce a lot, and we have a 3-4% annual productivity increase, which means that each worker produces more than they did last year. That is one reason why jobs get outsourced. Each worker becomes more efficient, which means an increase in pay. Which in some cases, means that its cheaper to hire 3-4 foreign workers than one more highly skilled domestic worker.
Another reason that jobs are outsourced, relating to the first reason, is that we have a large enough job market to fulfill our domestic need. We have a voluntary unemployment rate of 4-5% (4.6% in January of 2007), which is perfectly fine because it means that those who are looking for jobs (Frictional Unemployment) find them. And those who are unskilled or differently trained (Structural Unemployment) are being trained to do the needed jobs. There is a job for everyone in the US, outsourcing just means that it may not be the job that they had previously.
Outsourcing also benefits the entire world (and thus the US economy) because it provides demand for emerging countries. They accounted for 50% of the world's GDP output for 2005, and since 2000 have had the highest average real GDP growth in recorded history of 7%, the developed world (US, Europe, etc), for reference, has had 2.3% growth. They also, due in part to the demand created by outsourcing, posses 70% of the world's foreign exchange reserves and account for more than 50% (based on purchasing power parity) of the world's economic output. Which is just dandy for everyone involved and their friends and family.
I'll simplify that a bit, and add context.
As the emerging countries grow, that causes an increase in the demand for US goods. Which is beneficial in creating more jobs (currently about 125,000 net jobs are created monthly in the US, with 111,000 net jobs created in January of 2007) and spurring economic growth.
The emerging countries are going to add over 1 billion new customers to the global market over the next 10 years because of their increased incomes, due entirely to the fact that they now have jobs that were moved from regions with higher input costs (the US, in this case.)
-For corporations that means a larger market, which means greater economies of scale (increased output with decreased average cost), which means higher profits, which means increased stock prices, and thus increased wages.
So, basically- outsourcing isn't happening because "American's in general are lazy and want to be paid vast sums of money for slacking at work." Its happening because American workers produce more than they are needed for (and thus require an increase in salary or wages beyond the cost of hiring lesser skilled workers in less costly regions) in their current line of work, and because we have a general standard of living higher than that of other countries. Outsourcing doesn't hurt the US or its workers by taking jobs away from the US (more than 100,000 are created every month.) And outsourcing benefits the world, which creates a market for goods created in the US.

Jobs are being outsourced because its now a global community (with email, and overnight shipping), and the training and operating expenses of foreign workers and facilities are considerably less than they are in the US and other western countries. There are several other reasons as well, but thats more economically inclined than needs to be discussed here.
